Hugo & Birdy is the collaborative vision of Sarah Sherman and her uncle Robin York. Their passion for illustration spans the waters and lands between London and Vancouver and unites this multigenerational team in their love for clever whimsical prints & home goods.
Born and raised under Alberta’s vast prairie skies, Sarah lives, plays and works in the majestic landscape of Vancouver. With over two decades as an entrepreneur and creative director first as co-founder of the award-winning studio Phlo Design, and founder of Line & Clay and Hugo & Birdy— Sarah has built a career defined by clarity, craft, and creative integrity.
Her love for her husband, their son, and their beautiful special needs daughter embodies quiet strength and resilience - qualities that infuse both her life and her creative work. Beauty lives in the cracks of everyday whimsy. Sarah’s life and drawings capture her exceptional ability to open her heart to the light. Robin’s illustrations captivate with playful imagination and artistic brilliance, bringing vibrant, whimsical worlds to life. From humble rural beginnings to triumphant moments on the race track, Robin's journey is a mesmerizing odyssey. At a young age he pursued moto-cross, then proceeded to international car events driving a Lotus sports car and after placing 2nd moved onto Formula 5000 McLaren and Formula 2 racing, his passion for the race track knew no bounds.
While graduating as an architect from the Oxford School of Architecture, he wove his imaginative touch into magnificent churches and listed buildings of the period 1530-1830, leaving a lasting mark on the architectural landscape.
Collaborating with esteemed figures and serving motorsport champions, Robin's life has intertwined artistry with a quest for speed. Today, alongside his wife Jackie, he resides in a charming thatched cottage nestled in the scenic beauty of North Oxfordshire. The cottage, adorned with whimsical design, stands as a testament to a life shaped by magic, adventure, and the enduring power of boundless creativity.
